I'm a healthy, 20 year-old woman, who regularly suffers from headaches (they have migrane symptoms although I've never asked for a doctor's diagnosis). For several years, I have found that I develop severe headaches-- localized to the back of my skull-- if I lay down too long without sleeping. This happens regardless of what firmness my pillow is, or how my head is elevated (although removing a pillow and laying completely flat reduces the pain after it starts). The good news is that this reduces the amount of time I spend in front of the TV. The bad news is that I just recently discovered that no one I know experiences this, so it's apparently not typical. Can someone tell me if this is another type of migrane or a tension headache of some kind?

Could be TMJ related, all these muscle work like a trapazoid up and around from your neck to your jaw. You mayb be putting pressure on any one of those involved muscles that contribute to tmj. Try a myofacial specialist or neurosurgeon.

I have too! Weird. I find that if I oversleep or just don't get up at the right time that I get them. You can stretch out on a yoga ball and stretch out your tensed up neck and back muscles to help with it. Also, I think it is from the pressure of your head laying in one position for so long that causes it. It's like if you lay a baby in a crib and never pick it up, the head will become distorted from it. I think it is the same concept but I'm not sure.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

I actually get the same thing. I too am healthy. I'm an 18 year old male. I never really thought about it before. I just sit up when i watch tv now and its better. Try reducing the amount of time that you lay down and watch tv. If you use TV to help you get to sleep then you might wanna change the way you try to get to sleep.
