This incident happened over a year ago & I have absolutely no desire to dredge up the past. It would be most unpleasant & in no way productive to anyone involved. My showing up & answering honestly would most certainly result in a conviction. I just want to forget it all - what would happen to me if I don't show?

If you don't show up, you will be held in contempt of court, and a warrant could be issued for your arrest. If your testimony will result in a conviction for a criminal, I fail to see where that is NOT productive, or would you rather this person get away with his/her wrongdoing? What about the victims of this person's crimes, don't they have the right to feel that justice was served?

If you are issued a subpoena and don't show up you will be either arrested or held in contempt of court.

A subpoena is a document compelling your appearance in court. If you don't go voluntarily, you will be escorted.

they are right about the warrant and contempt. but, if you don't want a conviction, perhaps calling the prosecutor and letting them know you don't want to go forward would help you accomplish this goal. if they are unresponsive, try to contact the defense attorney and let them know you want to help resolve without a trial or conviction. good luck!

you can be fined for being in contempt of court,

The judge could issue a warrant for you and force you to testify.

And let me see, you have such a disrespect for the law, that you want a criminal to get off because it is not convenient for you. Is that about right ?

You yourself would be in contempt of court, a warrent issued for your arrest, and you would likely go to jail yourself. If you are a witness to a crime you need to come forward.
