You are just not paying attention. This has been covered so many times before.
Look - one does not have to be suffering from cancer to be interested in it. Similarly, one does not have to believe in a fictitious god to be interested in the subject.
Would you really prefer to have this section populated solely by relgious freaks and there to be a very one-sided debate OR would you prefer there to be an adult and mature discussion.

If we atheists stayed away, you would be preaching to the converted, giving each other blessings, prayer suggestions and scripture quotes to seek reassurance that your ideas of reality were the only correct ones. However, you must know that we atheists loiter here to do a number of things ...
Plant a seed of logic into your clouded minds.
Enjoy a debate with free-thinking individuals on the fascinating subject of religion.
Why not?

Actually, to be accurate, the section is called "RELIGION & SPIRITUALITY", and this section is a sub-section of "SOCIETY & CULTURE".

Obviously, Yahoo considers religion to be a part of society and culture. Since society and culture includes in large part even to atheists, it is totally appropriate for atheists to answer questions posted by people with religious beliefs.

Having said that, maybe someone should request that Yahoo create a whole new section strictly for atheists and nobody else. But probably what would happen is that Christians, and jews, and Muslims would find their way into it and answer questions originally posted for non-believers.

Go figure.

How can we answer a question put to us in this section, like yours, if we don't read and respond in this section. Plus so many of the questions are blatant insults to us, so we respond, as do christians or catholics or whomever when an atheist or someone else makes rude or bad comments.

Does appear to be that many of the anti-atheist comments are more meanspirited.

Atheism is the rejection of religion. That mean it is ABOUT religion. So this is the place to talk about it. And this question gets asked like 50 times a day. Are you guys really that insecure that you can't take criticism?

Most of us aren't IN the Religion & Spirituality section. Most of us are in the all answers section, and then we see a question that catches our eye. There's a lot that are addressed to atheists specifically.

Love = God
Hate = Devil

People have been blessed with choice. I think some atheists are looking for answers through God. True atheists wouldn't spend any time within a Christian topic. I don't know exactly what they believe. It's always confused me. Something like atheists don't believe in God, heaven or hell. They are purely logical and refuse to have faith because there are no real facts about God. It's just what people say about God, and that's not enough.

I would assume that some atheists would try and steal some weaker Christians, just as Christians do to anyone who's willing. I'm a Christian.

The devil is always trying to find space in your mind and life. An atheist who bad mouths God is the same thing.

Some people just like to create trouble, just like the devil. I welcome the atheists into these topics because there's a scripture somewhere that says:

It's easy to love who loves you, but if you can love all, you will be rewarded. Or something like that. :)

Good question. Thanks!

who says all atheists are not spiritual? as with most things, sweeping generalizations are dangerous. anyway, it's not like we have a church to discuss how we don't believe in god or how we don't think it's necessary for there to be some higher being. besides this is one of the few places where we can straighten out people about us without being lynched...

I like it. I know i am here to defend our position. I think we don't have other platforms to speak out. So this is a good place. We don't have churches, TV shows, we are not represented in congress or the senate or white house. We just want to be heard like any body else.

Because they want to ask and answer questions about religion and spirituality; although ideally, these questions are slightly less stupid and repetitive than yours.
