What if I go to my shrink and don't have an eating disorder after all? Am I then a hypochondriac? I try to avoid eating and I get the urge to purge everything out of me though I don't usually follow though.

If you don't have a disorder, then going to the session won't hurt you. However, if you even have the urge to throw up and stuff, you probably do have a problem. People who get the urge to commit suicide often seek help even though they never act on it.

You can be eligible for eating disorder therapy no matter what weight you are. You could be 300 pounds and be able to go to therapy for an eating disorder since there is binge eaters. If you want to go, go. I've NEVER heard of any therapy program turning anyone down.

I think that you are being brave for going to the doctor to discuss this!
I think that avoiding eating and even having an urge to vomit after eating is definitely not normal eating behaviour and you are doing the right thing about discussing it with your shrink.

What does it matter if he/she tells you that it's nothing to be concerned about?.. I'd rather have it looked into and feel a little bit silly, than to neglect something that COULD cause serious problems down the track !

It won't hurt anything to go. Better be safe than sorry. if you don't have a disorder then your shrink will let you know. A hypochondriac thinks they are sick all the time from many different things. You aren't a hypochondriac.

i went for a year and its not as bad as it seems. at first it freaked me out but after you start hearing some of the other peopes fellings (if you go to group therepy wich helps alot more) u will realize that you feel the smae as them. if u have any questions about what u r feeling and if its really anorexia or bulimia just ask me cause id know and if if u have any problems just tell me. the sooner u go the better becuase it gets easir than if u wait. i waited and i had heart damage so bad i wasnt allowed to run barley walk and exercise.

you have an eating disorder if you avoid food or even think about wanting to throw up. This is good that you are wanting to get your self out of this. You are beautiful and never forget it, no matter what any one says!

hi,
something has brought you to this scheduled session, so there must be some concern and an ED is nothing to mess with.
it is easy to uncover if one has an ED. and hypochondria has nothing to do with this, so don't concern yourself about that.
but if you don't want to eat, or purge when you do eat... there lies the ED evidence. don't try to control whats going on in your life, by controlling what you eat, don't eat. because if it continues, the ED will be controlling your life. please, i beg you, don't go there.
i wish you the best. God Bless!
i hope this helped.
