Statues of the lord Buddha are represented according to local
customs and peoples just like you see different representations of the lord Jesus in different times and cultures.

There are many reasons. One the cultures are different and there for they interpret Buddha's appearance differently. Second. The man who was basically Buddha when he was on earth..which i forget the full name... took on many different physical forms in his life. Some celebrate the fat buddha like the japanesse and others the thin starving buddha. Just the way to many different cultures people look different. To some Jesus is black and others he is white. Techinically he would be of a middle eastern appearance and Jewish. Many have different ideas of what Santa Looks like. It comes down to cultures.

I had no idea, but it makes sense. There were no photographs taken of the real Buddha. What are the odds that Jesus looked like a white guy?

Because no one knows what Buddha looked like. Have you noticed that Jesus looks different, depending on the culture that depicts him?

Because the Thai's are different than the chinese.

You can also say the same thing about Jesus and most religious leaders who died before photography was invented.

Why does Jesus look different in the UK than in Russia or Africa? We want to look at a deity we can relate to, that looks something like us.
