Maybe, plantar fasciitis? Like, heel pain? Maybe?

Planter fasciitis is a descriptive term for inflammation in the plantar fascia, the fibrous tissue over the sole of the foot.

It is usually triggered off by an increase in exercises such as a new commitment to jogging. But sometimes seems to appear spontaneously, especially if strain is put on the area by being overweight.

Physio or local steroid injection generally helps, plus modifying the cause.

A very wide open question, the way you put it.

Simply, it refers to a tear of the "connective cords" that help hold the bottom of the foot in alignment and run between the heel and the front of the foot. It can range from mild to severe.

Typically more common in overweight individuals, the condition, commonly known as heel spurs, can affect almost anyone. It can be a maddingly painful condition and can last as long as a year. The typical "cure" is rest, although few people can afford to lie about for the month or two it would take for the tissue to heal itself.

Strange enough, upon resting, the cords begin to heal themselves, but, as any sufferer can tell you, as soon as you get out of bed and start to move about the newly minted "healed" area isn't strong enough to take the pressure and rips apart again, resulting in intense pain.

Night splints, available from doctors -- as well as online -- help solve this problem. They allow healing to occur without the "ripping" effect commonly encountered.

Orthotic foot supports also help. But time is the real healer here. Consult a foot specialist if you have anything other than mild plantar, but be prepared for a long recovery.
