Well like in America for instance. Sure, Americans are a lot better off than some countries that are going through unspeakable wars and problems, but still... IF America is supposed to be so free, why does it feel we have to keep up with the fast pace society? Is it really possible for someone to have a simple life, and not be controlled by others?

Yes you can have a simple life and not be controlled by others anywhere in any society. You just have to refuse to do so and live your own life, which you may be killed for, but that is still your right.

You have only one true freedom in life, and that is the freedom to think what you want. Nobody can take that away from you. Everything else depends on your place in the world. Probably the most "free" people are the ones who have the least contact with modern civilization, although they have the constraints of their own culture to contend with.

In America, you have about the most freedom of any modern, civilized society because we believe very strongly in the rights of the individual. In this country, you can still choose to participate, or not participate, in just about everything. If you are clever, you can avoid just about all public requirements (jury duty, registering for selective service, getting a social security#, drivers license, etc.) It's still relatively easy to live "under the radar", avoid paying taxes, maintain your anonymity, and so on, as long as you don't mind paying for everything in cash, and lying occasionally.

There are still places where you can just head off into the wilderness and probably live unaccosted for most of your life, provided you are willing to learn how to survive, find shelter, live off the land, forgo modern conveniences, and basically become primitive. I'd call that a simple life.

Take a look at the book, THE LAST AMERICAN MAN by Elizabeth Gilbert. It's one man's answer to your question.

being free is such a tricky term.

tehcnically noone is free, youre 'enslaved' by the morals we set as a society, your coincience, kapitalism (or communism, or what ever ism). Law, even parrents.

and its a good thing. because if everyone was free, to do EVERYTHING they wanted. society would loose its foothold, and in would slip chaos, destruction and all out rampage would break loose.

ranmpant theft, murder, violence against others.

the thing you need to ask is not 'am i free' but 'do i need to be free to have a happy and a fulfilling life'

Yes.
America is among the few countries in the world that can afford the luxuries of such trifling thoughts.
If you had to struggle for your daily existence, watch your family die in ethnic purges, and battle diseases that are easily cured with medications, you wouldn't be worrying about such things as "fast paced society".

No. No one is free in the literal sense. You become free when you realize this and accept it as truth. I accept my lack of literal freedom as normal. This makes me exceptional and stressless, and carefree. I love life and everything that comes with it.

That's the way the ball bounces. Isn't it awesome!

True freedom comes from God, not government....as it is written, "He whom the Son sets free is free indeed!" This applies to anyone living under any government....democratic or dictatorship!

Jesus says, "All you who are weary, Come to me and take my yoke upon you....and you will find rest for your soul."

Jesus said we are a slave to whom we give ourselves up to. We choose our servitude. Some are slaves of drugs. Others are slaves of what will people think. etc. etc.
