I'm trying to set up a file with bookmarks leading to individual files. So you'd click on a bookmark, and it would display a .pdf file. But all the other files would stay intact. I could switch between .pdf files by clicking the bookmarks. The closest I've gotten is where it opens a file, but that closes the other one. Any advice on how I can do what I need to do? Thanks.

Sound like you need to set up a frame set. It allows you to have more than one "window" on a page. One frame could be set to hold the list of link. A second window used to open the PDF files. The link would have to be written to open the files within the second frame.
Do a search for "html frames" and you should be able to find information on how to use them.
