Should my mother restrict me from doing things with the person i love? Is it okay for her to limit my time with him? Its been 4 years with this person and i am 18. Even if she doesn't like him, is she right? How should i consider her feelings when i oppose in some way? .... be fair.

since you are 18 and have been seeing him for 4 years, she should have a good idea of what he's like and how he treats you. as your mother, she has your best interest at heart, and wants only the best for you. talk to her about it honestly, and openly, ask her why she feels like he isn't suited for you. when she tells you, really listen to her. she may see some things that you aren't aware of, being the one to see him only though rose colored glasses. sometimes, if you take a step back and really take a look at what's going on around you, you begin to see it's not exactly as it first appeared. trust in your mother to know what is best for you. if you still believe in your heart that your boyfriend is the one for you, talk to him about your mother's concerns, and if his feelings for you are strong enough, he will try to make your mother see that she is wrong about him. not by words but with actions and how he treats you. good luck

I would respect your mother and her wishes and maybe meet your friend somewhere else. It'll make your mother more relaxed and you and your friend will be better off. If your friend does'nt like it, tell her why. It might be your just fond of your friend or visa-versa. Do things this way for a while. If your friend agrees, then you two may have a good relationship. It never hurts anyone to try something new.

I don't know, you're still kind of "young" to be in love. When you're 18 I'm not so sure you're really in love, but anyways. I know it will be hard to accept what your mother is saying, even when you totally disagree, but she has most likely had a lot of experience with dating and she probably thinks you're still too young. My mom still thinks I'm her baby and I'm not. Moms are just over protective. But I think you should listen to your mom, because who do you love more? You're boyfriend you have known for 4 years, or your mother you've known all your life? Think about it.

I agree with the first person, it all depends on why she doesnt like him. If shes being overprotective, explain to her that you love him and that you are an adult, and that you need to be able to make your own choices and your own mistakes if you are ever going to grow up and succeed in the world. If hes an alchoholoic, or a druggie, or abuses you or something then shes right, get rid of him lol :)

She's your mom and she'll understand

You need to talk to her, tell her your feelings. By now she should have some trust in you...and you should tell her that. This should help clear the air and hopefully give you more feedom with your guy

First, talk to her and ask WHY. If it's a stupid reason, don't listen to her.
