The ones that you think sound best. Speaker choice is a personal preference what I may think sounds great you may think sounds bad.

But basically for most people bigger sounds better. So a pair of full size floor standing speakers with a 21", 18" or 15" subwoofer, 12", or 10" woofer, a midrange speaker & at least one tweeter is a good choice.

If you are using a surround sound sound stereo that has 2.1. Two book shelf speakers with a 12" or 10" woofer, a midrange speaker & at least one tweeter. Plus a powered 18" subwoofer, or a powered 15" subwoofer.

(Myself personally, I do not like 18" & 21" subwoofers. I prefer 15" subwoofers.)

Unless you are a fan of Bose speakers, don't buy Bose. They are extremely overpriced & very low quality speakers. You are just paying for the brand name. You can get much better sounding speakers at a fraction of the cost.

I built my own speakers.
These are the speakers I use for my home stereo.

"Our DIY speakers offer performance features not available on store-bought speakers, yet they cost less, saving as much as 75% over off-the-shelf speakers that don't perform half as well. Building your own speakers is easy when you order plans from Bill Fitzmaurice Loudspeakers. All plans include a complete set of instructions and step-by-step photos of the construction process."

Listening to music is a very personal experience. You should take some of your favorite CDs to the high-end music gear store in your area and spend a few hours and listen, listen, listen.

What type of receiver do you have? If you have invested some good money in a receiver, you should invest more in speakers. Your speakers are your most important section of your system.

Go to audioreview.com and read what people are saying about gear that you're interested in. Get a subscription to Stereophile Magazine. It'll cost you about $12.00 for a year. It's well worth it. They review all the highest end gear. You probably won't buy that stuff, but you'll get an idea of what to look for. Buy a few audiophile quality CDs. Norah Jones, stuff by Chesky, Miles Davis. Take them to the store and start listening.

The goal of a stereo system is to reproduce music as realistically as possible. Cues are called stereo imaging and sound stage. You want to be able to close your eyes and be able to imagine where each musician is in the ensemble.

Personally, I prefer electrostatic speakers. My main listening system has Martin Logan Ascent speakers. In my home theater I have B&W 602s. I also have paradigm reference 40s. I recently sold a set of Gallo Reference Solos, which are outstanding. If you can find some, buy 'em. They aren't made any more. In the budget range, B&W 601 or 602s are really nice, as are the Paradigms (which I bought used for $700.00).

Depends again on what kind of receiver you have. Say if you have a 2.1 or a 5.1 or a 7.1 receiver. Again if it is a THX certified or not? In any case you should start by browsing thru' some Audio/Video forum like audioholics.com or avsforum.com. You can also look at av123.com where you will find some good speakers.

go to the store and listen,

1st figure out price
2nd go to a high end store, high end stores have the best speakers, great speaker companys have many diffent lines of speakers

take Paradime, my speakers, great for the money, they start around 250 and go up to around 7000 for there high end stuff,

with you receiver you might not have enouph power to run the 7000 speakers, but enouph to run the 750 speaker, and they are going to sound great, but you have to try them 1st with your music to see what you think of them

good luck
