All microwaves are different. I use the "Potato" button on mine. I just press the button, then you press how many potatoes you have (mine is for 1 to 4) and then it comes up with the amount of time needed. That's it, press start and way to go, perfect potato!
(By the way, mine takes 16 mins for 4 potatoes to be done perfect)
Good Luck!

Depending on the size of the potato and microwave anywhere from 6-12 minutes. A large potato would take about 12 minutes. Poke holes in it with a fork then after about 5 minutes check it by squeezing it if it ready to break open its done. Use a potholder or towel it will be HOT

Scrub the potato, and prick several time with the tines of a fork. Place on a plate. Cook on full power in the microwave for 5 minutes. Turn over, and continue to cook for 5 more minutes.
After, one yummy thing that is nice is to cut it in half and kinda mush up the insides a little, and put some cheese and butter in there, and microwave it for another 30 seconds, then put on some sour cream. mmmmm.

Depending on the size of the tater in question... .but start with 5 or 6 minutes and go in about 3 minute increments after that. When you can stick a knife in at least half way with only slight resistance, its done. To help keep it moist, wrap it in several layers of wet paper towel.
If you hand a very old microwave like mine... ugh, probably about 20+ years old, it takes about 20 minutes.

Wash it , poke it with a fork once and nuke for between 3 and 7 minutes depending on the size of the spud and this in in a full size nuker, then heat in the oven at 400 for 10 to 15 minute to crisp it. the best way to judge the cooking time is when you can squeeze it and it feels soft all the way through.

Honestly being a future chef I really don't reccommend this method. Honestly you are going to get the best tater from the oven.
