I've been feeling very tight chested latley and dont know how to fix it and i dont know what to do or what to say to my mom becuase i really dont want her to be embarrassed! Should i talk to my doctor about getting something to relax me ( not sure if she will though becuase of the refferal) Please help??

hi!
i'm truly sorry you are having such a rough time of it. i truly understand what you are going through because i have depression, panic disorder, post traumatic stress disorder and am also bipolar. it took years for me to find the right doctor and the right med's to help me. i hope it won't be so long for you.
it's hard to know if the depression is causing the panic attacks or if the panic attacks are causing the depression. but you need not suffer needlessly. there is help for us. we, with these disorders, are very sensitive, so don't make it like your mom is talking behind your back, but as simply talking about you with this friend over her concern for you. your mom isn't ashamed of you... you have mental issues going on that can be tended to. i'm sure that's all she is wanting for you. when she puts you on the spot, about going out...simply tell her you don't feel well enough to go out just now. but don't close yourself off from the world...one good friend is all we need and a treasure to find. as for the friends issue, we do tend to start to isolate ourselves, worried that we will panic out, away from home somewhere. don't let isolation get a hold of you because then you will become agoraphobic and won't want to leave your home. as for that terrible tightness in your chest... that is caused by the panic attacks... or preparing yourself for another attack. you are holding yourself rigidly and not breathing correctly. you don't become aware of it until you start to feel the pain. when this happens..lie down, calm your body, in sections...like tight up your muscles in both legs, hold a few seconds and then release. go through your whole body with this. then start taking in deep deep breaths, slowly in, slowly out..you don't have to hold your breath in between breaths. do this for about 10 minutes and do several times throughout the day and when you are in bed for the night. you will have muscle pain after you start doing this because you are using muscles that you haven't been using. take a warm soak bath...or shower if you prefer, but in a bath, the warm water soothes the tension in your body. yes, follow up on the referral from your doctor. family doctors just aren't schooled enough to know how to take of this in the long term. I wish you the best! God Bless!
I hope this helped! :)

You may be extra sensitive right now and anything anyone says will touch a nerve. You need to take care of yourself and that means going back to the doctor and telling the doctor everything that is going on.

There is treatment for anxiety, there is no reason for you to suffer or be miserable. With anxiety I have noticed that medication works really well. And it wouldn't hurt to have the doctor evaluate you for bipolar or for any other form of depression. I refused to go and spent years and years miserable. Yet the minute I got evaluated, started medication and went to therapy, my life turned around one hundred percent. Now I am a therapist, I couldn't have reached that goal without my meds and my therapy. It's been fifteen years since I was first diagnosed bipolar with anxiety and I am happy.

I'm bipolar too & at times have a really hard time w/anxiety. You should definitely see a psychiatrist or you could try going the natural way like w/ kava kava & valerian root & such. Just be careful & do your research b/c even though they're natural, they have side effects that could be dangerous. There are many dietary changes you could make as well. (No caffeine, eating healthy, etc.)
Also, you sound like you need to see a good therapist. If you could find one that does cognitive behavioral therapy, that's the best.

Good luck!

When you have an anxiety attack it feels like your chest is tight and sometimes its hard to breath. It can be very scary. You need to write down when you have them and what you were doing before it started maybe then you can figure out what is causing the anxiety and it will be easier for you to talk to someone about it.
Good Luck !!

Sounds like some sort of mental health disorder (schitsophrenia would be my guess) But it could also be just stressed, before i went to a mental health clinic i would go the regular doctors to make sure their was nothing that was physically causing it.

please go to the MHC. they will help you there. i had to go to one when i was 14 (now i'm 23.) looking back it was the best decision of my life. i would not be here if it wasn't for the help of them AND my mother. good luck.
