"When joints are not regularly moved through their normal range of motion, muscles and ligaments shorten in time, and flexibility decreases." "Fatigued muscles tend to contract to a shorter-than-average resting length, and stretching exercises help fatigued muscles reestablish their normal resting length." I have not heard of this before, but it certainly seems reasonable. If it matters, continued stretching exercises reduce or eliminate many problems such as low-back pain, poor posture, stress, and muscle cramps, and help maintain motor skills. Some excellent ways to reduce losing height later in life is to stretch, exercise, and get plenty of calcium, starting as early (young) as possible. Calcium strengthens the bones, thereby reducing osteoporosis, a leading cause of height loss.

This is true, I grew a little bit from doing a lot of pilates. It is because you strengthen and lengthen your muscles and spine you will stand taller. This of course will increase your height.
