How do you get into crop dusting?

Own your own plane and spreader...or get hired on?

Most are not paid hourly, they are usually paid by the acre. This is better, since it helps them determine how much profit they are making, and how much their costs are.

For large plots of land or government areas, there are usually contracts, but the pay is still usually based on acreage.

Some of the crop dusters own the crops so they do their own spraying. Others contract the work out and the pilots can be paid hourly or contracted, it just depends.

Many of the crop owners own their own planes and do the work themselves; some of the smaller ones hire someone to do it.

Surprisingly enough, the naval base in Lemoore contracts the work out.

You'll need your pilots license and from what I understand crop dusting is an "art." You could get hired on & work your way up flying....it really just depends on what your qualifications are and the needs of the particular business.
