There's no official ruling against alcohol. The only suggested penance is the removal of meat on friday and perhaps a limit to one meal on that day as well. It's supposed to merely be a fasting, not a strict punishment.
There is nothing against alcohol since, in Biblical times, wine (thus alcohol) was imbibed almost as much as or more than water- it was safer, more nutritious, and provided psychotropic effects. It would be foolish to expect it to be outlawed.
Now, intoxication is another story altogether. That can be seen as carousing and, since Lent is a season of solemn reflection and penance, that could ruin the point. You should've gotten all of that out of your system on Monday and Tuesday anyway...

Lent is a period when one fast in memory of Jesus' fast in the wilderness. Jesus didn't take alcohol during wilderness. But what I think is if limited alcohol is good for health than nothing would be wrong. In fact I never even tasted alcohol yet.

no meat on FRIDAYS. but most "requirements" of Lent depend on what branch of christianity you belong to. most just let you give up whatever you want, like alcohol. but communion wine is allowed cuz is it jesus' "blood".
