My mom wont let me dye my hair Black! What is wrong with black?

Black hair is awesome! Especially on a lighter skinned person. As long as you're not wearing everything else black you shouldn't look goth or gloomy at all. Maybe you should convince your mom to let you try it out just to see how it looks and then she'll see how good it looks!

Your mother obviously knows a bit more than you. Think about this. What are you going to do three weeks after you have dyed your hair and your roots are growing out? You don't say what color your natural hair is but...are you willing to retouch your roots once a month with the black dye? Do you know how to do this? Then, what are you going to do with it after you get tired of the black? Your hair will have to be bleached to remove the dye and then redyed back to your natural color or something close. Then the dye will fade off and it will have to be redone again. Your hair will sustain damage, it will be dry and brittle. It won't be shiney and it won't look healthy. If you use a curling iron or flat iron on your hair ...because it has been dyed ....extra care has to be taken to keep it from getting still more damage. You will have to buy special shampoos and use lots of conditioners to keep it moisturized.
Think about all that. Then make your decision.

Black hair isn't that common if you're a caucasian, it probably would make you look goth, that's what I think, but only if it's in your face or over your shoulders all the time. But there isn't anything wrong with black! Talk to your mom one more time before you do it behind her back though.

Here's what you do:

Say "Mom, I've changed my mind. I want to shave my head like Britney Spears instead."

She'll look at you like a deer caught in headlights, then she'll give you the go-ahead to dye your hair, provided you don't go through with the headshave (which I'm sure you won't).

Then again, the psychology might not work and she'll say "That's a great idea! I'll drive you down to the barber tomorrow!" Then the next day you're sobbing hysterically as the barber buzzes off all your hair!

If you are having your hair colored professionally there isnt anything wrong with black, however if you are coloring it at home then by all means go ahead and dye it, but keep in mind that if you are tired of it as it starts to grow out and as it gets to the point of fading and turning a very attractive shade of army green then by all means dye it at home. You will never have hair the same again......dont do it....youll regret it.....go to a salon and have it professionally done...........

is she an emophobe or a goth hater? That will explain everything, she doesn't want you to look like what she thinks is a punk. ... She should seem my girlfriend, shes got wicked black hair and blood red highlights in it, then she'd definitely let you color yours

I have 3 daughters.They are all brunettes.They were blonde when they were little.My oldest daughter wanted to dye her hair black when she was about 15.i let her and I HATED it the first day.When I got used to it I loved it.She dyes her hair all the time now.Brown, red, blonde, black---My favorite is black.It looks great on her.Now my youngest daughter has dyed hers black.Looks great.

black is way cool! *my hair is dyed black* try getting chunks of color in it too ;-)

however you have to be comitted for a while if you dye your hair black. going to the salon to strip the color from your hair can leave your hair VERY damaged.

+ black takes a while to grow out

Black is hard to undo even if you use semi permanent. I don't ever recamend this even if your hair is naturally almost black. When you color your hair black it looks fake no matter what you look like.
