that was easily brought down by meds, but some idiot on here got her panties in a bunch because I wasn;t rushing her off to the doctor. Just made me curious how many people on here take their kids in when they have nothing but a simple fever along with signs of a bad cold? Had the fever not gone down, that would be a different story, but as parents how may of you just kind of know when they have to go and when they don't? This may apply more to people who have had more than one child as i know your a bit more worried with the first, your instincts seem to grow as you have more.
We have a printout from our physicians office telling us when and what signs to look for in a fever to know when to bring a child in or not. She obviously was not needing to be seen or I would have taken her in, just as I know that all doctors are different and many have different ideas about care.
Anyways....do you rush your child to the doctor for a fever and cold symptoms.

exactly Colleen O, thats what i said, all doctors are different, i go with what my doctors say because we have been with them for years and we trust them, that is why we see these doctors and not some other ones....did you read the whole question? Your answer simply expanded on a point i had already made.

I am a first time mom, but growing up with 5 sisters and 1 brothers I am used to being around children. You as a parent need to make a decision with your own child. What is normal for say one child may not be normal for another child. So just because C.O your daughters normal temp is one thing does not mean that her daughters is that. I believe that parents are built with a sensor that lets them know when and if their child is in need of medical attention. For a fever and cold symptoms I personally would not have taken my daughter in. I would have frist done tylenol or motrin and a luke warm bath. and after one or two doses if the fever had not dropped or gone down then i would have made a phone call.

Oh geeze yeah. You can bring down fevers easily enough. Meds and luke warm baths. You take them to the doctor, then suddenly your kid is right as rain. Just like a car. You take it to the shop and then there's nothing wrong with it. I took my son once to the hospital for a high fever when it was 105 degrees. He had chronic ear infections. After that, it was surgery. But, I knew what was causing the fevers and how to handle it. When he had that high temperature, he was down to normal by the time we got to the doctors.
But, if the temperature doesn't go down or goes up after the meds wear off, it's time to go to the doc.
No, no, no...never put your kid in cold water. That will put their bodies in shock. Luke warm water and keep the head wet is good.

I had a 103 before, but didn't go to the hospital or doctor. The body is supposed to have a fever and high temp. to fight off the sickness. If you lower the temp. or reduce the fever you will be sick longer.

Considering that "normal" body temps vary from person to person a 103.4 fever in a child could be deadly. My daughter's normal temprature is 96.7, at 103 that's 7 degrees higher than her normal temp...maybe YOU wouldn't take your child with a fever 7 degrees higher than normal but I would and I don't give a fig about printouts from YOUR physicians office.

I agree with you. Last week my oldest had 103.5, did nothing but give her tylenol and sent her to bed. She was fine the next day. Why take them to the doc wait and hour or two then go home with an antibiotic that they probably don't need.

Temperatures above 102 need immersion in cold water to get it down before anything else with kids. I have been through this with two daughters.
