All my life I have been the type to break down and cry about everything. It doesn't matter if it's a good thing that happens or bad. And it doesn't happen b/c of that time of month, it just always happens. What can I do to harden my heart a little. I'm 31, is it too late?

hmm, sounds like your just a sensitive soul, dont try to harden your heart! there are enough hard uncaring people in this world as it is. Maybe the reason you want to change is because you worry about what people may think of your crying. The truth is though that the only people who will have a problem with it are those who are afraid of showing their own emotions and seeing you able to express yours may make them uncomfortable. So i dont believe it should be a problem anyway. Besides crying is good for u, lets ur emotion out and makes ur eyes look shiny, lol. xxx

It seem I have the same problem and I have been doing EMS for 20+ yrs and have seen some nasty stuff. I seem to cry at stupid stuff and not the tragedy. I'm 39 and well it's safe to say you and I will never change and hardening your heart wouldn't be you. You can change the outside but the inside is what makes you, you. Don't try and change it just use it to make yourself stronger and make yourself a better person then you are now.

You could have a mental health issue or hormonal issue that could be helped with medication. That coupled with counseling could be just the thing to help. I don't think it has anything to do with 'toughening up' or 'hardening your heart'. I have no doubt that you are a strong, intelligent woman, and I think you should see your doctor.

Crying at appropriate times is one thing, but if it interferes with your life, that is time for action. It is *definately* not too late. Try taking the depression questionnaire and see if your symptoms may be depression. Print the questionnaire and take it to your doctor. He or She can help you find what it is that will lead to some relief for you.

Coming from someone with depression and hormonal issues, I wish you well, and you really can get relief if you search it out. Don't you deserve it? I think you do. Good luck!

Never too late.
Try avoiding the thought - its when we keep thinking about things that the tears come, grab a glass of water or a pen and focus on something else.
Change the topic if you're talking to someone. Be pro-active + with the right mental attitude. You CAN stop the tears.

Remember, people see a loophole, and might consider you weak.
Cry in front of your best friend and your special people.
Don't share your tears with everyone. Cause then it gets harder for people to think you can handle the tough stuff.

You CAN :)

Believe it or not maybe your healthier than people who suck it up and dont cry at all. Some people just relieve their pressures that way. Some people bottle it up, some people beat their wives and kids, some people drink, some people pray.....you cry. It could be medical and you can take a ton of medicine to change it or it could be just how your body and mind chooses to release the day's pressure and stress. I'll be turning 31 soon and cry when i'm frustrated (you should have seen me when i quit smoking!), I've accepted it and kind of feel better after having a good, ugly cry.

Go to your doctor and see if he thinks you need to be on meds. Some crying is normal but all the time about everything is abnormal and you need to seek help from a medical professional. I don't think it's you needing to harden your heart you need to find a happy medium.

Meds. You may think that is just how you are but meds can help "harden your heart."
