Yes. Take a look at the things we ate EVERY SINGLE DAY. Junk food, pizza, candy, chocolate, cereal, etc. Take a look at the things the DOG'S EAT EVERY DAY dog food, maybe some treats, and water. These are the things dog's are SUPPOSED to eat. It makes dogs healthy. The things WE eat are NOT HEALTHY. They give us cavities, diabetes, cancer, etc. And what do dogs get when they eat dog food? Nothing. Why? Because that is what they are supposed to eat. What do humans get when they eat junk food? Cavities, upset stomach, laziness. Why? Because humans don't eat what they are supposed to and humans are supposed to eat carrots, lettuce, stuff like that. We have to take junk food off of our daily menu.

The answer is no, a dog's mouth contains approximately the same amount of bacteria/germs as a human's.

This myth got started due to anecdotal evidence wherein it was observed that human bites seemed more likely to result in infection than dog bites. However, recent studies have found that's not true either and that the past studies dealt mostly with human bites on the hand. I guess a hand is more likely to get infected because it is more difficult to protect.

Still love my dog though.

I think it is highly variable. Some humans have terrible breath and lots of germs. Same with dogs. So I think they should only compare dogs and people with clean breath.
But why do dogs lick their wounds to help heal it? If we did that it would get infected. I think dogs might have some kind of saliva that is antiseptic! AFter all, they eat rotting meat a lot in the wild. (wolves) that wiould kill a human in hours. Their stomach acids are a lot stronger than humans. THe other thing is that dogs mouth germ have no effect on humans because we dont share their diseaeses at all. So it is much safer to have a dog lick you than a human.

The fact is that dog's mouths have fewer types of bacteria living in them than humans do....however, many of them are DIFFERENT bacteria. Fewer bacteria = cleaner, but different bacteria = more potential for infection. Not so much an old wives tale as it is a misconception....facts painted in a certain light to appear to be different facts, lol...and it has nothing to do with what we eat. Dogs and people are both natural omni-vores (eat meat, fruit, vegetables)...it has nothing to do with chemicals are anything like that....just naturally resident bacteria.

No, dogs lick their butts, and god knows what else, think their mouths are cleaner? Probably not.

Goth girl, do some research, you'd find out what dogs get when they eat "dog" food. Kibble is garbage. It leads to allergies, many, many, dental problems, cancer, the list goes on. Our unhealthy dog population can be traced back to when "dog" food first came out 60 years ago at best.

it's true because we eat a whole bunch of different foods and they dont eat as much the food. what we eat also sticks to the back of our mouth and the dog food we feed our dogs is hard which cleans off the gross stuff like deer

Are you speaking of the dog that was over in the corner while ago licking on his boinker? I would like to hope that would be a small clue no matter WHAT you eat.

On the battlefield dogs were used to clean soldiers wounds if they were out of antiseptic. Sounds gross but it is documented. They simply don't harbor the bacteria that we do...as far as why this is, I'm not sure...
