Now that I have your attention:

In most wars, one of the first things you do is paint the enemy as not entirely human. They sacrifice babies, they enslave people, they emit flatulence in elevators, that kind of thing. This allows you to treat them in ways that otherwise would be abhorrent.

I've seen the same thing on boards like this across the Internet. People - Christians, Muslims, agnostics and atheists - who are so absolutely certain that they know THE TRUTH that they cannot conceive the possibility that someone who believes differently might be deserving of any kind of rational treatment. We've all seen it here, too. It seems to me that a place like this would be wonderful for gaining some insight into how others think, but with all the shooting going on, it's almost impossible to separate the signal from the noise.

So I guess my question is, why don't we petition Yahoo to change the title of this board to "The Shooting Gallery" and just give it to the trolls?

I agree with you on all counts... except the one about elevator flatulence. extreme steps must be taken to stop those animals.

Actually, the first time I started talking about eligion was on Yahoo! answers. i didn't know some people could be that narrow minded. Ok, I'm an atheist. But I usually believe that, if people want to believe, then it's fine, as long as they don't try to make other people believe. If it makes them happy and helps them live... But in America, religion is SO extreme compared to Europe. It's unbelievable!

So, ok, sometimes, I come here to take the piss! I admit it. But sometimes, what I read is so incredible! Like some people really believe that the Bible is THE TRUTH! I thought the Middle Ages were over! And a lot of people just talk about sins, sins, sins... It's just... I don't know, it's pretty sad.

PS: I agree with Simon Says: you can be spiritual without being religious.

This yahoo site brings together people or all kinds from all walks of life. Not everyone agrees here but they speak out none the less.
I have been jumped on, chewed on, and spit out but I keep coming back because this site allows freedom of speach as long as it is not vulger. No one will always have the same views and many like me feel emotional when no one understands or you get put down.
But with the internet it is common for people to say things that they never would say to anyone in person. Why? The computer is their safety net. They feel safe and can do what they want.
Who cares whose feeling your hurt, they are just not human?
Yes, sometimes I get upset but I keep coming back to maybe help just one person out there. And you can too.

We have proved over and over again that all religions hold no truth what-so-ever. Yet people still insist on believing. Hence war.
Educating third world countries is difficult because they have been entrenched by religious fanatics ruling their country's. I thought this would be an impossible task but now I see George Bush and Jesus land in the south as just as backwards in their thinking. Lets let all religious believers duke it out and the meek, or atheists shall inherit the earth.

Sherman: Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?

George H. W. Bush: No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.

Sherman (somewhat taken aback): Do you support as a sound constitutional principle the separation of state and church?

George H. W. Bush: Yes, I support the separation of church and state. I'm just not very high on atheists.

That guy was elected President of the United States. He is the current president's father.

I can separate the signal from the noise just fine.

Ah, but surely you don't believe quitting is the answer. No, we who try to be tolerant and understanding, must continue in our attempts to take this site seriously and use it to the benefit of all the people who visit.
Share your knowledge and remember that for every person out there who treats this like a place for a 'holy war' there is one who truly seeks knowledge and possibly enlightenment.

If you can see the bad state of the human condition, then why don't you work to make a difference. Give us your voice of wisdom, not only here, but throughout your life. Don't grow tired of the struggle. Work while it is still day. Peace.

I agree. although, I just look past certain comments and read those who like to debate intelligently no matter their belief. I've find it very educational and actually fun! I do like the shooting gallery idea because it would be fun to blast and be blasted at.....!!!

You are soooo right!
And exactly for that reason (people trying to spread THE TRUTH, not being able to open their mind and hearts) we will always have war in some shape or form.
