There are usually four categories of fruit spreads.
First, the 'jelly' is usually clear, pure juice either commercially processed or you cook and strain the fruit yourself through cheesecloth.
Second, the 'jams' are also cooked fruits but not strained. Jam will have seeds and/or bits of the fruit that is cooked down in the finished product.
Third, are 'preserves' which are cooked down fruits but with much larger chunks of the fruit in the jars. They sometimes have almost the entire fruit (such as most of the strawberry) in tact.
Fourth, are the marmalade's which again are cooked down fruits -more like the jam consistency, however, marmalade's have some of the rind or peel included in with the fruit. Most common one is the 'orange marmalade'.
There ya go. School is out! Enjoy.

Great question. Jam is a little bit more easy to spread, jelly is a little bit tougher. Jelly however is very unlikely to have any pieces of fruit or anything in it but jam is more likely to have seeds of the fruit in it. I personally love strawberry jam the best. Preserves are also great if you like having actual pieces of fruit in your topping preserves are the way to go. I sincerely hope this helps you out.

Jam is just made from fruit and sugar etc.(traditionally) and Jelly uses Gelatine (a disgusting bi-product made from boiling down animal bone) and flavourings (natural or manufactured). In short - Jam is nicer than Jelly.

Jelly is made from fruit juice. The product is clear and firm enough to hold its shape when turned out of the container. Jam is made from crushed or ground fruit. It tends to hold its shape but is generally less firm than jelly.

Jelly is usually made from juice so it is clear, jam is the whole fruit so it is a little softer and has chunks of fruit in it.

Jelly is gelatinous. Smooth. Like thin jello.
Jam on the other hand, still has fruit pulp in it. It tastes more like the fruit it was made from. It is not as gelatinous as jelly.
Hope this answers your question.

Jam contains the real fruit, it is pretty much mushed up fruit and perservatives. Jelly is the flavor of the fruit.

yes they are right jam is made from fruit and has chunks in it. and jelly is made from juice, it is stiffer and no fruit chunks. wanna try something good. boil 1 cup water, half cup sugar, add half a cup or less of dry fruit like prunes, apricots, cherries whatever you find. and put it in the boiling water with 2 tbsp. brandy (optional). it adds flavor. boil 1 min. then let stand to cool somewhat. put in blender. wala a spread for breakfast. jam, jelly, spread, it's all good.
