We have diet food for our cats; either get it at a pet store or ask your vet where to get it. It will help him not to be a big tub!

I also have a big happy cat. She is 22 lbs and 15 years old. When she was young, we spent 3 years with a vet trying to control her weight. She went to weekly weigh ins and ate presciption diet food. The food was crazy expensive and useless. Over 6 months she lost 1 lb. When that didn't work tried the raw food for cats thing. She has always eaten better than me. She is happy and very active for her age. She keeps up with her 2 yr old pesty little brother. Apparently, even cats come in all sizes. Of course, check in with your vet. But in the end...Just love him!

Never give him anything but water to drink.
Feed him nothing but cat food 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/2 cup in the evening remove the food when he stops eating .
Have you checked him for Diabetes it is a big possibility.
Hope this helps the cat will die to soon if this continues .

I had a fat cat once. She was probably about 15-17 lbs. I had to buy her special diet cat food from the vet. It probably would have worked, except the other cats in the house didn't need to be on a diet so she would eat their food too. Check with your vet or check the stores for a diet cat food. I think they make some that you don't have to get from the vet (Moonshadow's was a prescription cat food).

It takes a while for a fat cat to lose weight... I know, I have one fat kitty on a diet. Reducing his portions of food and seeing to it that he gets exercise (walking, running, playing) everyday helps a lot. But I understand from my vet that sometimes it can take 2 to 3 months to notice any difference. So, hang in there and keep doing what you are doing: switch to a weight-control cat food, reduce his food intake, and see to it that he exercises. Good luck.

I have had this problem with a lot of my cats they usually get off the large scale by diet food but i didn't want to give them too much shock so i slowly made the food mix in with the regular diet it really works!!

Put the cat on a diet and stick to it. An overweight pet can lead to diabetes and a life time of insulin shots! Not something you want to deal with...get the weight off him now and quite associating treating him right with stuffing his face. Pet him and play with him instead of constantly feeding him!

have the cat on weight control food, and you probably should feed it around a half cup a day.

buy one of those red laser pointer things that people use at business meetings and have the cats chase the small dot around the house. it's so funny watching them slide all round & jump to get it. Plus its good excercise for them.
