Answers are CLOSE, but NOT Concise.....

Here's the real deal....

THE FCC has mandated that the old signals will be turned off on 2009...BUT 80% of all homes MUST HAVE ONE HD TV.....

If 80% don't have HD, they can push it as far back as 2012......
But in 2012, no matter how many own HD, it WILL BE TURNED OFF NO MATTER WHAT.....

Now, CABLE and SATELLITE do not fall under the FCC's jurisdiction, so they are immune to these rulings.....
Which means they can send LO-DEF NTSC signals out for the next 200 years if they choose.....
Or drop it next week.....

The fact is the market will dictate when Cable and Satellite switch over to FULL HD and they no longer carry the SD stations...

Yes this is true. By the end of 2008 all analog broadcast channels will be digital and or HD. You will still be able to use your analog TV but you will have to get a Digital Television Tuner box to pick up the local digital channels in your area. Most local stations and the major networks like ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX already have there channels split into two signals, one for the "over the air" televisions like the ones you are speaking of and the Digital and Hi Definition signals for the new TVs with those capabilities. I suggest you get a new TV and enjoy this new technology because the tuners that they sell will cost you as much as buying a new TV plus the picture quality is much better in digital.

Nope. All you need to buy is a digital TV box (descrambler) to convert the signal from digital back to analog, which most TV's accept.

You don't need an HD antenna. The descrambler is all you need. A change in FREQUENCY needs a different antenna, and a different MODULATION (Analog TV is FM, Digital TV is PCM) simply needs another reciever. Want proof? If you try to operate an AM or FM reciever with a PCM transmitter, the antenna will recieve the command, but the reciever will misinterperate it and react like it's interference

no, that's not going to happen within a year. Heck it may not even happen within the next 5 years.

I don't know the exact figures, but I think that only some 20% of the general public owns an hdtv capable television. Don;t expect a change like that to happen until that number gets over 50% at least.

the international won't lead to 2012. The Mayan calendar would not lead to 2012. The Mayan calendar it rather is getting used for this could be an afternoon-count huge style calendar (seem up "Julian Day" to work out a similar calendar that we use at present). The long count huge style Calendar used with the aid of Mayan astronomers arrives on the top of an prolonged count huge style and starts off a clean one on the day of iciness Solstice, interior the year we call 2012 (for the Mayans, that must be New year's Day). it rather is comparable to while our calendar "ran out of numbers" on December 31, 1999... till somebody invented the huge style 2000 and we narrowly escaped the top of the international. no longer. ;-) Mayan astronomers (who used this long count huge style calendar) describe many astronomical activities that are to ensue after the year we call 2012. they provide the dates of those activities using their calendar. for sure, they envisioned neither the international nor their calendar to end. --- some charlatans in touch interior the huge 2012 Hoax Off have a e book to sell (some thing approximately surviving the top of the international). interesting: it rather is a revised version! that they had additionally envisioned the top of the international for 2003 (and so as that they had a similar e book -- diverse date -- on the marketplace then). each little thing else it rather is used to help the "predictions" of the top of the international (which incorporate those supposedly made with the aid of the Mayans) are present day innovations, created rather for the huge 2012 Hoax Off.

What he meant to tell you is that in the year 2009 the FCC (Federal Communications Commission ) is going to cut all the signal in an antenna so everyone will have cable that means that if you have an antenna and you see your local channels you wont be getting more frequency in 2 years ..........................
