Yes. I have a canon digital IXUS 800, and the video clips it records (some form of .avi) can be easily edited in windows movie maker. Once I plug in my camera, it shows them as pictures, and I can import them into My Pictures. On other cams, it might show up as a removable drive and you can access the files directly. But for me, Movie Maker has worked fine, even with the funky versions of .avi that other editors such as premiere pro won't accept. Hope this helps!

it depends what kind of applications you have, kind of computer, and kind of file the camera creates. If you use iMovie on a mac, then quick time wworks well!!!
with a windows machine, windows media (wmv) would probably work with similar applications.
