I am in the process of weaning my dog onto adult food. She has been on Nutro Ultra Puppy since I've had her from September. I was going to just change to Nutro Ultra Small Breed Adult, but can only seem to find it online. The kibble for the regular N.U. is too big. Anywho... I ended up grapping the Yorkie Royal Canin and she's got some smelly gas going on! Thank God it's not all the time, but I'm wondering if it's from the food. Should I just stick with the N.U. and order it online? And just for the record... I didn't just switch her food, I've been slowly mixing it with her puppy food all week, she still isn't completely on it.

My dogs had gas so bad when they were on Royal Canin that I had to switch them to another brand, so I think that it is something in the food. If she was doing good on the Nutro, I would change her back. Also, many small petstores carry Nutro and they may be able to special order what you want for you so you do not have to order it yourself.

No, I have not experienced that problem and my dog has been on Royal Canine for almost 6 yrs. The other thing is I live in Canada so if your in the US they might be different. Ours is made by TechniCal and it is a Holistic Dog Food made up of fruits and veggies, with fresh Chicken and Salmon Meat. You don't have to buy the special dog foods for different breeds or weights. We were told by someone who used to have a Pet Food Store, that is was just a gimic. All you need to do is buy the Adult Food and feed the recommended amount.

Good Luck

Hi there i am a breeder, animal shelter worker and i also work in a health food store fo pets. thats a hard question to answer alot of people think by switch to a higher up brandit will cause less gas which is completly not so, there are higher enddogs food and lower end and of course some inbetween..lol (innova, fromm, solid gold, acana, horizon, etc,) and most come in a variety made for litle dogs as well. it pretty much goes on preference i have heard many clients complain about gas with the dogs when eating innova for ex. it could be from the food but there is also other reasons dogs have gas i will leave a link for you that explains a little about doggy gas..lol take care and hope this helps.

I'd imagine you know better than to feed your dog Kibbles and Bits. I didn' notice any more gas than usual feeding Royal Canin, but after a couple of weeks of starting my dogs on it they both had styes on their eyes, one had balding around that eye too, and one had a fatty tumor behind her ear more than double in size. I was disappointed as it was the one food my picky dog loved to eat. The fatty tumor has completely disappeared on the other dog since changing her food again.

OK, really hard to answer, but I'll try. It's weird that your dog has been farting. Dog's are just like humans, they fart, too. Always remember, never order food online. It's bad. Who knows how many days that has been in a factory or wherever it comes from! You should try changing your dog's diet completely. Try other foods and avoid foods that seem unhealthy for your dog. For example, Kibbles & Bits is what my dog eats and she never seems to fart. Try that food. And always read the Nutrition Facts on the back of your pet's food. It could avoid stuff that you didn't want your pet to do.

I have used several brands of dog food. i am guessing you have a yorkie. I have 4. I have never had a problem with switching there food causing this problem. i have however had this problem when they have had a rawhide chew, or table food, or bones. even with my larger dog. exspecially with my larger dog. is there a chance your dog is getting anything else that is causing the problem.
