No, you should only use a special cat shampoo for a cat. Human shampoo can be too harsh and dry out the skin or cause an allergic reaction. You actually don't need to bathe cats, they keep themselves clean. Unless your cat has gotten into something particularily sticky or gooey, that your cat cannot get out of it's own fur...you really should have no need to give him a bath.

Humans and Cats have a different skin PH. So using a human shampoo can dry out their skin. A Cat shampoo is best especially because most felines do not care for a bath sometimes some shampoo is left behind. If you ABSOLUTELY must us a human shampoo, then baby shampoo should be the only option. Still if you can, go with the cat shampoo.

For all the people saying not to give cats a bath I have a question for you....If you lick your fingers after you eat, are your hands clean???????? NO....A cat that is not bathed will develope more dry skin. The oils build up and trap dirt and dust etc and create more irration. I have groomed for 7 years and I know the benefits of bathing your cats.

Human shampoo tend to strip the natural oils in a cat's coat. Using Baby shampoo is not so bad. But once or twice or the odd time that you need to bathe the kitty and you don't have cat shampoo on hand, a little diluted human shampoo never did a cat any long lasting harm - coat may be a bit dull and dry for a few days though.

Cat shampoo is different than human shampoo. Cats have a different pH than human skin. Human shampoo can be drying or irritating to their skin, and may even cause a rash or worse. Don’t use dog shampoos on them either, unless it specifically says it may be used on cats. Some are too harsh for them.

By they way, human shampoo should also not be used on dogs, for the same reasons. Yes, it may get them clean, but at the cost of an uncomfortable pet, at best.

No.
If you are going to use human shampoo on animals then it should only be baby shampoo, dogs and cats have skin that is more sensitive then humans and the chemicals in our shampoos can easily give them rashes and irritate their skin.
But besides that, why the heck do you want to bathe your cat? Cats are self-cleaning animals. If it has long hair, or if you want to give it a little help once in awhile, then buy a brush and brush it. If you try and put your cat in a tub of water it will scratch you.

You need to be careful what shampoo you use if it is human shampoo. If you have to use human shampoo, use a gentle baby shampoo. Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo is perfect for that.
Otherwise, try to use a cat shampoo.

And don't bath your cat too often, you can dray out the skin and cause discomfort.

no longer a reliable theory, strips the oil from the cat's pores and skin and is a recommendations too harsh for the cat. Get a soapless shampoo made for cats. by the way, cats do not in many circumstances favor baths until eventually they were given into some thing nasty - they wash themselves.

Not recommended. Animal shampoos are formulated to keep their coats from drying out. Also, our shampoos can real;y burn their eyes. Stick to cat shampoos and conditioners - or use a real gentle baby formula.
