At some point there must of been a mixing of race introducing the gene that gave him the blue eyes.
Or he's been wearing blue contacts for as long as you've known him

Somewhere in his family lineage was a white person with blue eyes.
Most Afro-Americans have some caucasian genes somewhere in their lineage. Mostly goes back to the days of slavery and since white men "owned" slaves, they felt they could own them anyway they wanted and had children with the women.

His blue eyes are from a recessive gene. Nothing wrong with them or him.

All my uncles have green, blue and other shades of light eyes. It is very common. My grandmother swore they were all black however through research found out they are not and that usually is the case however you need to realize it could be just naturally in genes. All races have different color eyes. Are us blacks not suppose to?

My friends kid has blue eyes, light skin, red-brown hair, and freckles....and he is African American. It reminds me of a caucasian redhead, which is caused by recessive genes passed from the mother AND father to the child!

That would be my guess!

It is possible, there is not really an explanation too why that is. But I assume that he may have white relatives in his family tree. To tell you the truth I have no clue.

I have seen a few black people with green eyes, brown eyes and even gray...

Don't know how often it happens, but it sounds neat. I just recently read that the famous Mexican news reporter Jorge Ramos also has blue eyes. We are all different and unique and wonderfully made. I embrace and celebrate the differences that unite us. I'm glad we are not all the same, that would be so boring.

I believe blue is a recessive gene with black men. Someone in his family must have been a carrier.

That can't be because European ancesty is where blue eyes come from generally. He must have some European in him either that or contacts.
