I don't have any idea why this happens, but everytime my son gets excited, or is wrestling with daddy... and Everytime he starts laughing, everytime he inhales he makes a bad gasping sound... He doesn't have asthma, and there is no wheezing in his chest, but he does this all the time... What could be causing this??? I am concerned because he has never had this problem before, and it is only when he is exerting himself.... (that is why I had previously though about asthma.) He is 2 years old, and has a clean medical history, other than reoccuring ear infections.. (which have been taken care of with tubes...) He is not getting a cold, nor has he been sick.. Any ideas thank you.

The exertion thing concerns me. It could be asthma, not all people with asthma actually wheeze. I know, I am asthmatic and I don't. Ask the doctor to evaluate his heart. Not to scare anyone but sometimes congenital heart conditions are worsened by exercise, laughing. Good luck.

Don't be to quick to label it asthma. It may not be. Talk to your Dr asap. If it concerns you then don't waste time just get him in to the Dr! No there does not have to be wheezing with asthma. I have it and so does my oldest daughter. When he calms down from playing does the gasping go away on its own??? It probably would not if it was asthma. Good Luck and God Bless

This has got to be a worrysome and confusing time for you. Relax, but don't sit around too long. If this has been happening for more than a week or so, i think it's time you took action.
Give your pediatrician a call and see what he thinks, it you're posotive it's not asthma, then you might want to call anyways. Because it could be something else that you're not farmiliar with. Stay calm, keep an eye on it, and call you docotor.
Best of luck to you and your family =]

if the doc you have don't check it take him to another ,that sounds like asthma,or a upper resp infection of some sort better to be safe than sorry, my son had a doc say no hes OK many times then i took him elsewhere and found he had allergies with the same symptoms, allergies and asthma usually go together, don't mess with it its better to be safe than sorry

This is a very important and useful report especially for yourself and your precious family. I used to have a serious allergic symptoms but after I switched those household toxic products to safe, non-toxic products all the symptoms (respiraotry allergy, skin problems...) were gone away forever. Taking a reference to this report if you switch your toxic products to safe products not having those toxic chemical ingredients it will help you and your family health real big time! Please do not think that would be a too much work for you to check all the ingredients! That's for you and your family. Even just switching a laundry detergent can affect your health considerably. (Actually I have a few people who survived from cancer by not using those chemical products for their house work, laundry, cleaning, dish washing... anymore, seriously) So if you want you can download the report free without putting in any of your personal information, here:
http://wood.euleesway.com/toxicreport.html
and if there is anybody who you think is using too much chemical (toxic) products or having a serious allergy problem please send this report to them, too.
I hope it will be a big help for you and your family.

How long has it been going on? You should take him to his
doctor. He could have asthma or even have something lodged in his airway. Either way, if he is "gasping", I wouldn't wait for it
to worsen. Your pediatrician will hopefully be able to answer your questions. Good luck.

have you let your doctor know?

What about when he gets a chest cold do they give him any albuterol?

My son is 3 years (01.02.04) and we noticed he started these noises but his was only occuring when he would catch a cold and it always ended up being where he needed albutoral treatments, and now he has been diagnosed with asthma :(
