I'm on the computer 8 hours a day, primarily for work. I've started to notice my wrist tightens or locks up on meafter I've been on the computer for a while. It hurts! I'll stop for a bit, stretch, let it rest, but when I get back to work the pain starts all over again. I'm pretty much shot for the day. What can I do to relieve this pain? It's only my right wrist. (So of course I'm right handed.) Then every once in a while I get this striking pain in my hand. It's annoying b/c I want to work more but I can't. I'm only 25 and this is my livelihood. I'm a writer, so I'm a bit worried. Any ideas? Also what kind of doctor would I go to for this?

I took up knitting. It completely strengthened my hands and took away the pain in my right hand--both the wrist pain and the stabbing pain through my fingers into the base of my hand.

As long as I knit about an hour a day, my hands get stronger and I can type or do other hand-destroying activities as long as I want to.

I knit in a relaxed, recumbent position, with plenty of light and my feet up. I understand that playing the piano has similar benefits.

Get an ergonomic keypad (one with a wrist pad and configuration that is easier on the wrists.) If you are doing most of your computer typing at work they should provide one.
This may be a sign of carpel tunnel syndrome. Get assessed soon. You can also wear wrist braces, but need to be fitted for them.

This is going to sound like I am who is weird - The cause is muscles but they are more likely to be in your back, shoulders, neck and upper arm. What happens is they get tight and push on nerves so it causes the pain. See a massage therapist. Read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies for more information.

Ice will only make it worse use heat

a modern day hi-tech injury, some called it repetitive work injury or some other terms, some times it affects the shoulders if the postures is no good, i've trained myself to use both the right & left hands to use the mouse, it's a little awkwards at first, after a couple pf days you'll get the hang of it, then i'll switched the mouse from one hand to the other from time to time.

You have to do something, or you will have a problem.

try a wrist brace, drug stores sell them, or any store might have them.

make sure your arm rest on the chair is level with your mouse pad that has the foam rest on it.

you could try some white flower from the health store, that might help.

You might try a wrist brace and make sure you have plenty of support under your wrist when you are typing. I am not sure which doctor you would need but start by seeing your family doctor and have them recommend someone.

Hi I got this ointment Voltaren (Diclofenac) 1% Emulgel. It works well with my wrist. Im having symptomps as yours. Try leanning your arms in the table instead of your wrists holding the whole weight of your arms. I that way your wrist is more relaxed.
