I want to purchase a subscription on a website but I do not have a credit card. I do have a pre-paid one that was given to me as a gift. It is a Visa but someone else purchased it and put an amount on it and gave to me as a gift.

Yes you can, as long as the pre-paid card has a maor logo (Visa, MasterCard, AmEx, Discover) and that site accepts payments by those agencies.

yes
but what you have is a pre paid debit card
it is not a credit card at all
as the card issuer ( through VISA ) has risked nothing since they are pre paid. VISA merely offer safety guarantess much like it does with ATM / Debit cards.
