I don't, even if I know the answer. I just tell them where to look for the answer. I don't believe in "spoon feeding" how about you? Should we start a rule YA reagarding this?

There is a "Homework "category. At least there used to be.
I think it's right to tell them where to find answers, because that means they do their own research. I don't think we should spoon feed them answers.

As a teacher I'd give them guidance to start out to find the ansewer themselves. I think kids today are far more lazy than past generations and I just heard something on the news tonight that confirms that . Kids today graduating from hs have lower grades in math, reading comprehension and english than most of the other countries. We kind of have seen this in action. I think they said the Us were next to Mexico in line in scoring compared to other countries.

Yet somehow hs kids are taking harder courses and making better grades,me thinks some teachers aren't marking hard enough and giving a's or high grades where they shouldn't be because they are afraid of parental and board and principal backlash.

Don't think yahoo would make a rule about kids not asking for help.

I don't see a big deal with giving them some HELP. Of course that's not what a lot of them ask for. If an answerer desperately wants 10 points, there's not a whole lot we can do. Sometimes they get contradictory answers, which won't help them. And the ones who want us to write their term paper for 10 points are more hysterical than anything.

Yahoo Answers makes the rules, not us. Besides we don't always KNOW why someone is asking a question.....

I've wondered the same thing. I think it's better to give them some help in where to look.

Coming here and asking is no different then asking your parents the answer. They'd probably tell them to look it up too.

The funny thing is, that with the Internet, it amazes me that kids have to ask at all. When I was a kid, I actually had to use an Encyclopedia...and go to the Library to research stuff. Now kids just google everything.

You know, when I was in school, if i had issues figuring something out, I would use all the resourses at my fingertips, including the internet. However, Y! Answers wasn't one of them. Because I had to search for the information, I learned a lot more. I'd equate spoon feeding on here the same as copying off someone else in class. It does nothing for you.

Yes.

I taught New Testament Greek at a Bible College for a few years.

The exams in my class were extensive and comprehensive.

I handed them out on the first day of class! WITH ALL THE ANSWERS FILLED IN!

Since the point of a class is to learn the material, why not give them the material they're expected to learn?

As far as the students asking us to give them the answers, I think the initiative is there, and they'll learn the material that way too.

It's a new world . . . adapt.

I totally agree with you. I tried to help a kid earlier by guiding him in the right direction for the answer to a question, then of course the person who answered after me gives him the answer! It's HOMEWORK HELP people! Not HOMEWORK ANSWERS! There should be a rule.

I actually will only answer the first one or two math problems, in a drawn out fashion, so that they can do the rest by following the steps I used. I also will give a very short answer to other types of questions, and then they will have to look up the info, anyway, for themselves, to flesh it out more completely.

I say sure, if you're so inclined to waste your energy. People who cheat generally end cleaning hotel bathrooms anyway, which is a necessary vocation in society. Besides, why ruin the hotel industries farm system? This is why I always answer them with incredibly realistic sounding nonsense.

(PS - one or two will grow up to become a Britanny Spears or George Bush, but hey, that's the nature of chance. What can you do?)

I think that if someone needs help, it should be given if the giver wants to help. The people answering these questions can not judge with complete certainty that they are doing someones Homework or not. We are not required to answer the questions, we answer for points and the chance to help others and that is all. It is a free service you could say.
