Yes, you can shoot a 38 special round in any 357 gun. But you cannot shoot a 357 in a 38 gun. The two rounds are the same diameter, but the 357 ia longer.

Can you shoot .38s from a .357? If you mean the .357 Magnum revolver, then the answer is yes. In fact, this is the advantage of owning a .357 Mag. If you mean the newer .357 Sig, then the answer is "No." The .357 Sig will only shoot .357 Sig unless (in some models) you swap out the barrel for the .40 S&W.

.38 Colt (long and short) and .38 SW SPL can be fired using a .357 Magnum revolver. They all have .357" diameter and similar brass dimensions-EXCEPT for length. But, you cannot shoot .38SW (the original .38-which is .360" diameter and has different brass dimensions) bu using a .357 Magnum revolver. When the NRA tested Bill Ruger's .357 Maximum revolver back in the early 1980s, they used .38 short/long, .38SPL, .357 Magnum, and .357 Maximum for their tests out of the same gun. And by the way, you CANNOT ever put a .357Mag round in a chamber designed for .38SPL. It will not fit-for a reason. There is no such thing as a .38SPL that can chamber .357Magnum-at least from a gun factory.

Yes I do this all the time in my .357 Mag revolvers. Just do not shoot .357 Mags out of a .38 Special only pistol.

Yes, this is common practice, back when my Pd issued 357 magnums it was policy that we use 38 spl, due to liability of the word "Magnum", sounds crazy but that was the thinking of the time. It is completely safe to shoot 38's in the 357, in fact it will have less wear on the gun.

Absolutely - I've been doing it for years with my Ruger Blackhawk 357. Also had a .38 Rossi that I sold, but still had all the brass and reloading dies, so I just loaded 38 rounds for backyard play. Have at it and enjoy, just don't try to put 357 in 38, or risk losing your hand.

Yes, you can shoot .38 specials from a .357, but you can't shoot .357 magnums from a .38.

Yes, a .38 special can be safely shot in a .357 magnum revolver.

Not true the other way around.

Yes, you can. Shoot the 38 wadcutters for target practice and famliarazation shooting, then blast away with the old 357 rounds.

A very good pistol for this is the single action pistols made by Ruger. They are well made, and are accurate. Not perfect like some of these newer hyperaccurate pistols, but the Ruger SA line of pistols will get the job done in style. They make several models of their double action pistols as well.

Hope that clarifies things a little.
