Oke she is almost 3 years old, a Husky/Shepherd cross, and she is currently in heat, and here's what happened. She was lying down and went to get up. Her back arched and she got all tense. She couldn't stay standing and was falling all over the place. She didn't respond to me calling her, and when I finally got her lying down she kept shaking, her pupils were dilated and it passed after a few minutes. It happened about 10 minutes later, except this time she peed and it was pretty much the same after that. Any advice or anything? Was it a seizure? If not, what else could it have been?

If the seizure is longer than around one minute, she could pass away from her body overheating. If the seizure lasts less than that, it is more likely that it won't affect her.

She is a larger dog, so that works to her advantage. The best thing to do when she has them is to hold her and whisper softly to her. Turn the lights out. It is very important for the atmosphere to be quiet, also. Let her know that you are there and that she will be ok.

In the meantime, keep a record of when it happens, and let your vet know about the record.

There is a medicine that she can be put on if the seizures get frequent. But that is normally used for more extreme cases. The pill is actually taken every 12 hours... which is a big commitment, since it is medication for life. If the seizures don't continue, she will be fine. :]

I know people are saying that it is very serious, but it might not be a big deal... just relax...
My little chihuahua/italian greyhound mix had three seizures very close together, but on different days. He is very small and we were very worried... but from researching [and no, I am not talking about internet... I mean medical books, vets, and from school] there are several things that can cause the seizuring. Most of them are very minimal in urgency. Make sure to make a vet appointment, but go in with good thoughts in your head! :]

Call your Vet ASAP! This could be a potential fatal condition and there is no use guessing. This is NOT NORMAL!

The worse thing you'd be doing is maybe interupting your Vet's Dinner, but, this is his job.

He may be able to give you some life-saving info until you get her in. If you truly love your dog, she is worth the money and most all good Vets will let you pay off the bill on your time.

Time is your friend or enemy......get away from the computer and call. Something is amiss, and I'm not trying to get you upset, but, I am an owner of 2 German Shpeherds and 1 Rottweiler, and if I saw this taking place, chances are I would have already called and have my Dog in my Pick-up heading down the road to meet the Vet!

Classic seizure behavior. I'd get her to the vet first thing in the morning. There are some medications that can prevent this from happening again, depending on what it was due from...However, it could be related to something he got into as well. Best thing to do, get a vet asap and have some blood work done.

If she's having a seizure maximum appropriate now i might take her to the vet .... anyhow if no longer.... Take her to the vet (besides ^_^) to attempt and get her clinically determined. there could be some medicine the vet can prescribed to help her ... yet another theory could be the canines nutrients. there could be something interior the canines nutrients this is inflicting it (perchance an allergy, the grain content cloth or yet another element, or a chemical in it) perchance that's rather helpful to alter manufacturers, or swap to a house cooked or uncooked weight loss software rather? How long has she been on that variety or do you turn between manufacturers???

Take the dog to a vet for a check up. My friend's dog had frequent seizures and I remember seeing it happen more than once. When the dog "came to" she (the dog herself) seemed terrified. It was really heartbreaking.
The vet might be able to give you something to help the seizures, if that's really what's happened.
Good luck.

It certainly sounds like a seizure. I would suggest that you give your vet a call, describe what happened and see what they want to do next. They will probably want you to bring her in and do a blood panel to see if there is anything out of the ordinary going on.

Good luck!

What you can do is take her to a vet, explain to the vet what happened and have them give her a check up
