What's the best way to find a short term rental in NYC?

We'd need a place with kitchen facilities near a store for food. Stairs are no problem. Would prefer a place in the East or West 50's or 60's.Am I dreaming?

Many people go on vacation and rent out their apartments temporarily, often for a good price.
