Ok. I have a huge crush on this popular guy at church. He is liked by other girls. I only see him about once or twice a month at the church dances. I am nervous and don't know what to do. I want to be friends with him and I want to win him over even though other girls like him. How can I do all that without giving away that I like him? Is it ok to hug him???

It is completly fine to just talk with him and be his friend. Don't be way over the top as far as flirting, but just try to have fun when you are with him. He'll notice you if you just be yourself and show him that you're an awesome person.
(It's fine to hug him. I mean it is not like all the other girls aren't thinking the same thing. Besides he probably won't care)

Sit back be a church mouse and watch the others who like him take full advantage or learn to not care about being shy and wondering what people think, you need to do it for you and you need to let him know you like him. Smile a lot, hug him ...sure, maybe hand him your church bulletin with your number on it and say I don't believe you have this with a smile.

If you haven't introduce yourself to him go over and say hi, my name is... Compliment like say you have a great smile or you like something what he is wearing. You can tell him something about yourself. If you don't feel you can keep conversation going on. You can say maybe I will catch you after church we can talk more. See what happen.

get to be friends with him first. that's how you'll win him over eventually (and yes, hugging is good). try to flirt with him some.
