A collection agency has collected my taxes for a school loan that I can't even remember getting. I never attended the school and now they are attempting to collect over $7000.00 from me. Is there a statute of limitations on this kind of thing. Is there anything I could do? By the way I was married at this time.

The loan was not paid to me, but to the school. How do I find out what I can do about this?

Did the loan company pay the school the funds? if so, then your dispute might be with the school. if you registered for classes, but didn't take the classes, you still would need to make sure they were officially dropped (in the school's eyes) in order to be free of fees. if that's the case, and you owe the school no money, then i'd say you should be released from the obligation...good luck.

You can't remember getting a $7000 check at 17 years old?

Hm.

Well, the debt doesn't go away. Have them come up with some documentation that they actually gave you the money.

As long as you didnt take the money, you can dispute it. You better find out if they arent a scam, by calling them and asking them for proof the money was taken as used.

Contact the school to see if they show you as a student then. Hopefully they have the records. Good Luck :)

Get all the proof from that company. Have them send you everything they have. The school may have received it but never told you.....or you may have been the victim of identity theft.

Statue of Limitations makes it uncollectable anyway. Dont worry about it.
