I clipped one to many feathers. the cut also wasnt pretty straight. They are starting to grow back to a point where now he can fly at a slight angle going down. I want to tke him to a vet because it looks as if it has scaly mite. What will the Vet say? Will he be mad? also. I would like to know the price of a visit to a vet for something like this.

Vets don't get mad that what they are for... to help you, care for your pet and give advice. Does you doctor get mad at you when you come in with a cold, that could have been prevented? No...they jsut do thier job, there is no reason to be mad unless you disobeyed the vet and went against his or hers directions.

Scaly mite is fairly easy to treat, either apply vasaline to the infected area to drown out the mites (IT SUFFOCATES THEM AND ALWAYS WORKS FOR ME) Or take him to the vet, the vet will give you invectiferm mite treatment. Its about $20.00 or so, you cannot get it over the counter...it is banned well in Canada it is. I don't know where you are.

Ussually the vets here charge $49.99 for the check up than you add on the treatment + medication. I would say $100.00 average. This is in Southern, Ontario, Canada. I'm sure the price changes from place to place.

Good Luck!

The vet won't be mad, but she may question who clipped the feathers, so be honest and she'll probably show you how to do it properly.

As far as price goes, it differs in every province or state. It also depends on the type of vet that you are going to. If it is a vet that specializes in birds, then it may cost a little more than a small animal vet who deals with all types of small animals. The extra you pay for a bird vet is for the extra knowledge that they have gone back to school to get and I personally think it's worth every penny. I would always go to an avian specialist because they are the experts!

You're vet will probably not be mad, but he may show you how to clip your bird's feathers properly. If he doesn't, ask him to. That way in the future you don't need to go to the vet to get them clipped, and you won't have to worry about trimming too many and hurting your bird.

As far as prices it's different for each vet. Your best bet would be to call and ask one of the Veterinary Receptionists at the clinic. They can give you a good estimate and even schedule an appointment for you.

You should factor into owning a pet especially an exotic like a bird, the cost of seeing a vet regularly. I don't know where you live so it is difficult to say how much vets in your area cost per visit. But if your bird has mites you need to get help or it will get worse and your bird will pick it's feathers all off and be in horrible pain. go to the vet.

The vet should not be mad. I am not sure of the price for a visit to the vet for the problem your having.

Trust me, the vet has seen all kinds of things - so I certainly wouldn't worry about him being mad...just tell him what you did and I'm sure he/she will show you how to clip correctly the next time!

A vet call is usually around 35 plus medication (varies by localities).

You know better than to take scissors to a bird without knowing what the hell you are doing. You could have cut him!! Take him to the vet immediately for his mites....and don't worry about what the vet will say to you because you asked for it. And...if you can't afford to take your pet to the vet..what are you doing with him?
