My son was shot at and hit on the side of the head a couple of inches above his ear and had a migraine afterwards. Should I be concerned?

It really depends on the gun. Some of the more powerful air rifles (the kinds designed for varmint hunting) would be extremely lethal at that range. An average child's BB gun is unlikely to do any serious damage.

If the BB penetrated the skin, you should definitely take him to the doctor to prevent infection and foreign body migration.

If it didn't penetrate, there's probably very little to worry about. Keep an eye on him, and take him to the doctor if you see swelling or discoloration around the injury site (anything more than a small whelt or bruise).

Take him to the emergency room if he starts acting abnormally.

It's very likely that there's nothing to worry about. In the meantime, ice on the injury site, children's Motrin, and lots of TLC should take care of the headache. A lesson in proper firearm safety would probably be appropriate, once he's feeling well enough for it to sink in.

Good luck!

Very dangerous, but i guess if he only had a migraine it is fine. are you talking about a bb gun, like with metal bb's or an airsoft gun, with plastic bb's? I know that i play with airsoft guns, and if that is what he was shot with you don't have to worry, they are not that dangerous, though, I guess that can range too. was it a gas gun, and how powerful?

Never fire a weapon, loaded or unloaded at a target that can be damaged. Treat all weapons as if they wear loaded , to answer your question, no you aren't going to die you just have bleeding from the compressed air causing an opening in the epidermis (outer skin layer). from now on be safe do not point a weapon at anything you do not want to injure!

Don't worry about it - it hurts, but as long as the pellets are plastic it does no serious damage unless you shoot someone in the eye. tell your son to wear goggles when he has bb gunfights, it's a good "sport", lots of adrenaline. The best thing is to shoot someones hand causing them to drop the gun.

You mean you didnot go to an hospital????? R U making this up cause if not I think you need your head tested. Take your child to the hospital/doctors and explain what happened before someone reports you
