Boys do go for looks. But its not only that. We like personality also. If a girl can make me smile she doesnt have to be the most beautiful or popular, thats just a bonus. Some guys will say that if your ugly then they won't date you. But its not always the outside that counts. You have to get to know someone before you judge them and not look for money or popularity.
but thats only my opinion

no, many date them for who they are and only some is based on looks/popularity, occasionally a guy will date a girl for a dare

Well first they might check them out if they have good looks, then if they have a bad attitude they'd probably leave. But if their was a realy nice ugly girl they would consider them.Adn no1 wants to date a girl that doesent even try to look pretty. ( no make up, messy hair all the time,glasses instead of contacts)

to answer your question, I would consider looks important from passion and sex aspect although I do not like a great looking woman who has agressive arrogant attitudes and who is very full of themselves.
