Most vets will Microchip your pet. I have my dog microchipped. It is great because if your pet is lost and the collar comes off then Animal Control can scan your pet. I have walked my dog numerous times and the collar has come off.

Vets can charge anywhere from 15.00 - 200.00 depends on the location.

Risks .. very mild could have an allergic reaction very uncommon. Usually the animal doesn't even know it is there.

The vet or asst ... A needle is placed between your pets shoulder blade and a small chip is inserted. Like getting a shot. Yes your pet is going to feel it but I am sure after you get outside your pet will never even know what happened. My dog was playing fetch as soon as we got home.

The only Maintance that is required is if you move... You would need to contact the vet and update your address. Pretty Painless so far.

Also, If your pet is chipped and found by SPC .. Usually they will not fine your for your pet wondering since you have had your pet chipped. Most states will fine you if your animal has gotten picked up.

Ohhhh one more thing... If you have your dog chipped do not put any of the flea medications (in a tube) on your pet .. as it is put in the same location... Give the injection from the chip a day to heal as the injection might burn a little.... Not a big health risk or anything the needle used for the chip is VERY small .. It would be similar to you having your blood drawn ...

I got my big dog, Joey, microchipped a couple years ago. She's an Akita/Chow. She got out of the yard several times but never left the property. I did it just for piece of mind. Then I heard some back things about it like reactions and deaths, so I didn't microchip my other dogs. They've never gotten out and ran or anything. I don't know if the microchip could really kill a dog, mine is fine. But I just didn't do it anymore after that.

Most of the vet's offices can microchip your dog. There is no maintenance of it and really no risk that I know of - three of my dogs are microchipped. The cost to me was about 25 dollars per dog, which is not much if you consider that it might help you get your dog back should it get lost.

Any vet should be able to do it. The cost is $30 roughly per pet, there are no risks that I am aware of (all me pets are microchipped) and there is no associated maintenance.

any vet can do it, or at animal control or aspca, cost varies, call and ask at your vet or the animal shelter to see cost comparisons. What risk? None

Any vet can do this anymore... even Petsmart has a program...

Really the benifits outweigh any risks.
