I am a full time college student in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia. I go to school 3 times a week. It's about 30 miles drive from home to school. I used to have a 06 Honda Civic, which I really love...... My brother just got his driver license, so I trade my Civic to my brother and my parents will buy me a truck / SUV ($20,000 - $30,000). I think the FJ Cruiser is one of the best looking truck / SUV in my price range. I test drove a FJ last week and I really like it. The visibility was really bad, but I think a BIG blind spot mirror will slove it. The biggest concern is the front window, it is almost vertical, so it will be easily cracked. I can't afford to replace the window every 6 months...... Is Toyota going to fixed this issue? I am not a big fan of off roading, I think it cost a lot of $ to maintenance if I go off roading. Can a 2WD go off road? I don't want to be regret if I brought a 2WD. The positive side of getting a 2WD is save a little bit of gas. Should I buy a 2WD or 4WD, or o

I have a 2007 FJ Cruiser 4X4 and have owned it since may of 06. As far as the blind spots, they are there but you are correct with using the little stickon mirrors. I dont know why they dont put them on from the factory LOL. As far as the windshield, I havent cracked mine yet but alot have. Most insurance companies cover windshields in full with no deductable and no penalty against you. Check with yours first. The 2WD has proven itself offroad as it does have an electronic locking rear end. However if your going to offroad anything besides a picnic area I would highly recommend the 4X4 version. I absolutely love mine. I really dont think your going to save a ton of fuel mileage between the 2, if you want good gas mileage stay out of the throttle. The 4WD is also going to hold its resale value. Good luck!
*EDIT* also the FJ does NOT require premium fuel. There is a service bulletin on this. I use 87 in mine and it runs perfect. They stuck the premium only on there so they could use the MPG estimates on the sticker.

I agree w/kaku, does not sound like you. My brother just purchased one and I love it. But I have a land rover and we go four wheeling often. If your not going off road it is not worth the hassle. Plus if you have allot of friends getting in and out, the back seat is very awkward. And the cargo space is poor for it's size. Definitely go w/a smaller AWD SUV or something along those lines.
Added: Yes, and the premium only is killing his wallet.
Check out the four door Jeep Rubicon it's a really cool vehicle, the build quality is outstanding, It's got lots of room, and it is not as "bulky". Plus you can still go off road wherever and whenever you want. If you like FJs then check it out. I fell in love with it at the auto show...can you tell. If you get a 4x4 you can drive in 2wd. FJ comes in awd/4wd/2wd-Jeep 4wd/2wd

People here have given you great advice...Not what you want to hear?

Shame on you....more women 'buy' their own vehicles than little boys do, eh?...
When they spend their 'own' dough, they usually spend it wisely.
"The biggest concern is the front window, it is almost vertical,'
You obviouly have NO clue as to why the FJ Cruiser looks the way it does. Do you?
Take mass transportation, might lurn yurself sumthin'...

I looked at one of those FJ Cruisers and was really impressed. Seems like a real quality vehicle but when I was inspecting it I opened up the gas lid and it said premium fuel only. That was the deal breaker for me. I dont want a vehicle that will cost .30 to .40 more per gallon of gas to run with the high price of gasoline today.

If I were you, I'd just buy a 4wd 4 cyl x-cab Tacoma.Same good hardware as the FJ, cheaper to buy and run, and excellent visibility (The FJs are very expensive and selling for sticker cause they're in high demand).

Consumer Reports doesn't like it but my neighbor got one and loves it. Guess it depends on what you will use it for. We have a local FJ club; check it out for your area and see what those folks think.

It might be a good idea to think about buying a North American vehicle, as in keeping a fellow American working .
North American produced vehicles are a much better quality than 20 years ago, and are giving the Japanese a run for the quality dollar

The best one for you would be a midpriced compact SUV. For example, CRV or RAV-4.
