really wouldnt stay near time square. Hotels are FAR from affordable.

as for the airports theres not much to choose from them all really. So choose whichever one is the cheapest to fly to and from. I choose Newark from the UK. Found it very easy - the taxi costs are pretty much the same from all of them into Manhatten. The shops are the same in the airports (maybe jfk has more, plus more dutyfree places).

I have took all the public transport options from all the airports, there all easy but generally not all that cheap. I prefer the taxi but im lazy in that way. If theres two of you traveling i would go in a taxi to manhatten.

It depends on how you're planning to get from the airport to the hotel. If I were you I'd fly into LGA or JFK and take a cab. So much easier. You can take the A train from JFK to Times Square for about $9 total, but you would have to lug your luggage with you.

I think there's a Hampton Inn on 9th Ave. in the 50s that's reasonable. Do Orbitz or kayak.com for a hotel.

Fly into JFK its busy but its well known and very safe. I prefer that airport out of all the other ones. You should stay someplace in the city or in a hotel on LI, bc you can take the LIRR to the City everyday. I personally never been to Hells Kitchen but my dad who works in the city goes there all the time and loves it ! One of my personal favorite restaurants in the city is Ellens Stardust Diner! The waitresses and waiters sing while your eating! The Building itself is like a 50s dinner its awesome!

LaGuardia or JFK are better than Newark.

I don't really think any of the hotels in NYC are 'affordable' -- be prepared to pay a lot compared to other major metropolitan areas.

LGA & Newark/Liberty are all about equal, JFK is a bit further away, but not that much.

All places in the Times Square area are expencive or not safe, take your pick.

i recommend flying into jfk...it's easy to get from there to times square via public transportation (the air train, and then the lirr or subway)
