Bound's hubby here:

The hairline crack may not go through the handguard. Is it in the forward handguard (near the front sight) or the rear handguard (near the receiver)? Personally, I would not repair the handguard, especially if it is on the forward handguard. You can get replacement wood from Boyd's (http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/BrowseEbus/Militaryall.asp ) for a very reasonable price.

Do you plan on shooting your Garand for matches in competition, or just to plink at the local range? If you are planning on shooting competitively, I would re-stock the Garand and have the action glass-bedded if you are shooting NRA competition, or just re-stock it if you are shooting the CMP Garand Matches.

Actually, I would be interested in seeing a picture of your prize! Best of luck with it!

i'm additionally slightly stunned on the incorrect information so far...if a low-end Garand is now $1500, nicely write me a examine cuz mine are offered! at an analogous time as the Carbine is "wonderful" and lightweight and has vast mags attainable, that is by no skill greater advantageous than a sprig-n-pray gun for shorter distances. historic, sure, yet could as nicely get an AK if shooting is the point. The Garand is a actual "considerable conflict Rifle" that became meant and utilized by utilising actual infantry squaddies, with an entire-powered rifle around and cost of fire and reloading that positioned worry interior the hearts of that is enemies. It has potential and variety. For right this moment's collector and shooter, the Carbine is regular as a novelty however the Garand is the only that actual rifle shooters want and use in competitions. We shoot fits at 2 hundred yards each month right here and that they are constantly finished. i think of which you would be a lot greater happy with the Garand first. seem up The Civilian Marksmanship software, examine the regulations and get your order in...that's nicely nicely rather worth the hoops you'll be able to desire to bounce by using.

I think there is a site called thestockguy.com. They can tell you how to do it. There are several methods like filling the crack with wood glue and clamping it closed for the necessary drying time. Armories sometimes clamp cracks together, drill a small hole and driving a snug fitting metal pin through them.
