I strongly suggest that you start to respect the freedom of religion of your fellow human beings.

The Catholic Church and many other Christians Churches follow the Biblical practice of Jesus Christ and the Jews in setting aside days where the entire Church fasts and prays as one in a attitude of constant renewal.

By the solemn forty days of Lent the Church unites herself each year to the mystery of Jesus in the desert and in spiritual preparation for the celebration of His Passion, Death, and Resurrection.

This season of penance is an intense moments of the Church's penitential practice and are particularly appropriate for spiritual exercises, penitential liturgies, pilgrimages as signs of penance, voluntary self-denial such as fasting and almsgiving, and charitable and missionary works.

With love in Christ.

Episcopalian here, Lent has no basis in anything Biblical that I can see. It is self-serving and as far as I see presents the participants' "great piety"; something expressly mentioned as an action to be avoided (Matthew).

So I agree with you. Christ died on the cross so that we can be saved, not so that we should be somber. We should REJOICE in the name of the Lord at any and all opportunity.

Would never work. Foodshops get a lot of fish sales.
Besides, it's not a part of society. I didn't see any Lenten presents or signs on the expressway yesterday or today. Hate to burst your bubble, but Christianity isn't a cultural thing.
