I have had over a dozen seizures when I was a small child. They usually happened before sleep, but twice they happened in the day. Whenever I had a seizure, I ALWAYS lost consciousness. All my seizures result in loss of consciousness. However, I once started to have a seizure, in a museam with my parents. It felt EXACTLY like all the previous ones, and should have resulted in loss of consciousness. I am 100% certain. However, I used my willpower, fought it, tried to stop it. It backed down, and then all the symptoms leading to the loss of consciousness vanished! I know that if I didn't use my will, I would have lost consciousness. I am 100% sure. But I didn't, so I RESISTED it. I didn't tell my parents, or my doctor, however, I did ask my physician if it was possible to resist a seizure, and he said NO. However, I resisted it (100% sure).

How did I do it?

How was it possible?

The nervous system - and, of course, the brain are so incredibly technical that science may never figure it all out. I believe that you used a technique called "bio-feedback" which was a fad back in the 1970's/80's. I believe that you can create new pathways in your brain, thereby, stalling or lessening your seizures. I am by NO means a medical person, but I have found that by shear concentration, I can make my ears very quickly stop ringing - by will. The ringing is caused by - who knows? - changes in the barometric or atmospheric pressure? I don't know if you've experience it - you're just sitting there minding your own business, then suddenly there is sharp ringing in the ear. Well, I've been able to make it clear up in seconds. So, I'm thinking that you have been able to lock in on the area of your brain that the seizures originate, and am able to get the electrical impulses to disperse elsewhere or just stop.

I'm real proud of you. It would please me if you would continue to keep detailed records on your seizures, make great notes of the time they start, stop, and any other items you notice. Keep these notes for a year, and either submit them to a University that would be interested in the facts you present, or find a "ghost writer" who can help you put together some articles to submit to a magazine or write a book. What you have stumbled across may be just the tip of the iceberg in getting a handle on this health condition and make the dependency on med's be less, and perhaps end some forms (maybe not all) forms of epilepsy.

My best to you! Wow!

Have you ever heard of an Ora? An Ora is the feeling you get before you have a seziure, it lets a person know they may be close to having one. But you can't count 100% of the time that you'll actually have one when you start to feel an Ora coming on. Sometimes it goes away and you don't have the seizure.
Of corse there are all kinds of possibilitys out there, could it have been your willpower, I could never say for sure it wasn't. However what is actually known about seizures, as your physician has already told you is there is no evidence that a seizure can be stopped.
I think theres a better chance you experienced an Ora and then it didn't lead to the actual seizure.

Hmmm. Very interesting. Seizures are considered to be generally beyond our control. They can manifest as an alteration in mental state, tonic or clonic movements, convulsions, and various other psychic symptoms such as déjà vu. A person having a complex partial seizure may appear confused or dazed and will not be able to respond to questions or direction. Some people have seizures that are not noticeable to others. Sometimes, the only clue that a person is having an absence seizure is rapid blinking or a few seconds of staring into space.
What you are describing could have been what is called an "aura". This is something that lets you know you are going to have a seizure. At that point some people feel that if they can sit down, calm themselves, breathe slowly and deeply they can avoid the full blown seizures. (My husband does this.)Children can have seizures when they are young and outgrow them.) A person who has seizures has what is called a seizure threshold. Any stresses at all can lower that threshold. Perhaps you raised your threshold by slow breathing and positive thinking, which helped to decrease your level of fear. This is mere conjecture and I must add that there are a multitude of reasons for seizures to occur and anytime you have seizures you need to have a Doctor look for the cause. It could also be that as you mature your seizures are changing. I could find no documented alternative therapy involving mind over matter control of seizures. Remember, it is very dangerous to engage in driving or using sharp tools if you are prone to seizures and if they are uncontrolled. Uncontrolled means any seizing at all.

It was possible because your epilepsy (in that was in fact the cause of your seizures) is not as severe as is the case of other patients. When a seizure is about to begin, personal intervention is not an option. Were you taking medication for seizures at the time?
When I had my first few seizures, I didn't know what was happening. It's the scariest feeling I've had - to know that I was losing control. After I started taking medication, I would feel similar feelings like one was about to happen, but I was able to control my thoughts and avoid an attack.

The mind is a very powerful tool.
It may not work all the time.
But it sounds like you were able to sense or "feel" the onset of this particular event. And therefore you prepared yourself mentally.

This is a good thing, keep working on your mental control and powers -- it's the mind/body/spirit connection.

good for you!

don't ask why, ask why not?
