The bigger lines, numbered 1-30 are the centimeters. The tiny lines are the millimeters. There are 10 millimeters in each centimeter.

The tiny spaces about as big as the thickness of your fingernail-- that's mm (millimeters). Ten of them make a centimeter (cm) and there are about 30 cm on a 12-inch ruler.

MM is millimeters, and CM is centimeters. The 30 is probably centimeters.
