If you are in the USA, use the Yellow Pages: party planners, receptions, hotels, wedding chapels, churches are all places that have information about hall rentals.

Social clubs are a good bet, the Moose, Elks, Oddfellows, VFW, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, all may rent space, some have banquet facilities. Some require that someone in the party be a member, and be on the site during the entire function, and give you a discount because a member is renting the place. These places are usually cheaper to rent than banquet halls. Just call and ask if they have facilities, and if they rent to non-members.
A local industry keeps a picnic ground and banquet hall for it's employees. It is beautiful, and free to employee's. They have a lot of rules about cleaning up, but well worth it. A member of our party works there, and we got the hall. Think wall sized fireplace, big dance floor, outdoor grills, a miniature golf course, a kitchen fully outfitted, playground equipment, shelters on concrete slabs with picnic tables and individual grills. Superior restroom facilities.
Also try local restaurants. Some have party rooms, as long as you buy their food, you can rent it. Some let you decorate, with some rules, and bring your own birthday cake, some offer the room for free. We reserved a spot at a buffet, it cost us nothing. No dancing, no band, but good food, and a place to talk, open gifts, etc. some places have a big enough hall for a band and dancing.
Otherwise, it is get the Yellow pages out, look under Banquet halls, and start calling.

I don't know any halls or party places but some general advice; if you want to ask such a thing, please give us your location or at least your *country*! This is an international site and if you're in the UK, knowing about a hall in Canada isn't going to help you much, or the other way around.
