When my daughters were that age they had time limits for telephone use and tv watching time. They were allowed 2 hours of tv per day and 30 min of telephone time during the week and 1 hour on the weekends. They learned to ration the time on the phone to only those they really wanted to talk to and were particular in what they chose to watch on tv. Didn't have computers, video games, or any other electronics to play with.

My son is 15 he gets 1 hour of supervised Internet time a day. He uses it for his homework, but i know what he is doing on it. He gets longer if he asks. ( my daughter is 6... She plays games on the computer when I help her)

He gets 2 hours of TV time threw the week per day, that does include video games. Now on Saturday extend that a little, but encourage them to go out and do something, or read, or clean their room. On Sunday if they have studies done they can watch TV and play all day if that's how they chose to spend it. We have a big breakfast and just enjoy our Sundays. Its our slow day.

My son has a cell phone on my plan. I allow him 500 minutes a month plus the free night and weekend time. He usually used about 30-60 minutes not counting the free minutes. He has texting on his phone , I allow him 500 a month and he doesn't use many.

He is very active at school I see nothing wrong with him having down time. He goes to school all day he needs to have fun too.

Some kids if you make it clear what you expect you dont have to limit them all that much, They learn to control themselves. If you do it at an early age you wont have as much trouble when they are 17-18.

my child's use of the computer and/or video games will only benefit her when i throw her to the "wolves" in the real world at 18. She knows how to type as fast if not faster than me...and i got paid good money when i worked in the administrative world for typing and talking on the phone. She has those 2 down! She can get a basic job in the office with those 2 skills alone. She uses them when she is finished with school and homework. People forget they go to school for 8 hours a day!! She is not allowed on the computer past 9pm at night. I tend to put a limit on her attitude not her computer and video time.

Well I'm 15 and my brother is 13, and we dont have any restrictions mainly because we dont just stare at the TV. We play guitar/bass/drums a lot and read guitar magazines and when I am on the computer I'm usually doing research on guitars, or helping my dad with his pottery buisness. I don't play video games.

I don't have a time limit for any of those things for any of my children primarily because of basic economics. When you create a poverty of things, suddenly they become much more appealing. When a parent restricts any item, TV, food, dirt, the item retains power of attraction of children. When they have free access to it, then they learn to deal with it and learn to move on to more appealing things. I have seven kids, not one of whom would choose to spend several hours in front of a TV, even my three year old will watch one show and turn it off when it's over.
Kids who don't ever have the opportunity to learn that will never, hey, learn to do it.

What time is leftover after science and math fairs, music competitions, rodeo, track, volleyball, and soccer? Not to mention regular school. If they want to spend their 15 mins of free time on video games, tv, and the computer I say they need the rest.

I get to be on after I do what I'm supposed to do (Practice my singing, clean my room, do my homework, etc.)
