I've had dark yellow urine for probably a couple weeks now, and haven't had a normal bowel movement in a while. I've been trying to drink enough water but it seems like even when I drink a lot it doesn't help. Also I've been having pain on my right side, kind of where the kidneys are, so I don't know what it is anymore and I don't want to go to the doctor because I feel like I go too often. Anyone got any ideas?

I would suggest taking an over the counter laxative or eating/drinking something that can cause a bowel movement such as prunes or coffee. Dark urine does normally mean dehydration but other issues could be involved. Especially if you now have pain in your back. Try having a normal BM and keep drinking lots of water. If that doesn't work then go see a doctor

Is the pain in your lower back just above where your hip bone is? If so you should definitely go to the doctor because that means your problem is related to your kidneys. If the pain is somewhere in your lower abdomen, it is probably due to the intestinal tract being blocked. Either way, you should go to the doctor if it has been an abnormally long time since your last BM. The stool inside of your intestines can become so hardened that is like concrete and has to actually be manually or surgically removed. As far as the low urine output, if it is not increasing with increased hydration, that is a big warning sign that something is not working right with your kidneys. If your urine is less than about 4 cups/day (8 oz each) then you need to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Some other warning signs of kidney problems include frothy or foamy urine, fluid retention causing swelling, drowsiness, and lethargy.

If you are drinking 8 glasses (8oz ea.) of water a day and your urine is still dark and yellow, go see a doctor and get a urinalysis done. you could have a renal problem that can be addressed. Sometimes if you wait too long, the damage can become permanent and progressive so at least find out what's going on. Even if you decide not to do anything about it for now. Last thing you want to do is kick yourself later for not preventing something that could have been easily taken care of.

You should really see a physician. Dark urine when taking in fluids does not indicate dehyrdration. It could be a liver problem or diabetes. The only one who can truly answer your question is a Dr with lots of testing

You really should see a doctor, becasue this could be a urinary tract, bladder, or kidney infection, all of which can be serious if not treated. Don't be embarrassed about going to the doctor's if your symptoms are real-better safe than sorry.
