This is a question that can only be answered based on an individual officers morals. I would like to say that if one of my family members (or friends) were breaking the law that I could arrest them if need be...
But thank god that won't be necessary for my friends and family are smart enough to know not to break the law.
If they did, and I was not strong enough to arrest them, I (or any officer unfortunate enough to find themselves in this position) could always call upon their fellow officers to help them out in this situation. Also, this tact would be advised so there's no question on favoritism.
As an added piece of info, my father, a retired assistant chief of police, arrested me as a minor for minor in consuming and it was the best thing he could have done for it helped me correct my wicked ways.

I once knew an officer..A long time veteran officer.who had to arrest his own son..and plainly stated.."It was not high point of his career"..case in point..If every policeman in the country played favorites toward family and friends, what use would it be to even have police at all? I meet people all the time who blatantly abuse the authority of a family member, who happens to be in law enforcement. Regardless of the impact it has on the career/credibilty of the officer.

I am a small town police officer and i am related to half the town i work in. yes, i've had to arrest a relative. and yes i did my job. its not a pleasant experience and not something i enjoy. many of my family members will have nothing to do with me now even though all i did was enforce the law which they disobeyed. but the i look at it is i didnt break the law. and i didnt force him to rape the nine year old. so ultimately i'm ok with it

Depends what they did, I suppose...violent crime, any kind of felony, etc then yes. Walking down the sidewalk with an open beer in their hand then probably no (though I don't think I ever arrested a person, famly or not, just for having an open beer in their hand on a public sidewalk. )

i would if they commited a crime that i couldn't help them get out of. I guess it also depends on what crime they commit..If i see them smoke weed or drink underage, no way...but if they kill someone then it would be by obligation as a person of the law to not let them get away with it

A:
Hopefully the agency you worked for never put you in that postion to have to make that decision and
B:
Hopefully your family would have enough respect for you to not put you in a situation where you would have to make a decision like that in the first place.

This reminds me of a recruit who was asked what he would do first if he had to pull his mother over for a traffic stop. His reply was he would call for back-up. I thought it was a clever and humorous answer.

If it was my job and I had too...yes. I wouldn't like it, but I would. Although I think you can tell your superior your not comfortable with it and have someone else do it.
